Uzbek President proposes to systematically evaluate critical publications in media

Uzbekistan, Tashkent, June 28 /Trend D.Azizov/ Uzbek President Islam Karimov has proposed establishing a well-functioning system of assessment of the most important publications in the media to enhance the effectiveness their statements. This was announced in a congratulatory statement of the president with regard to the Press and Mass Media Workers Day, published in the official media. 'It would be useful if the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan noted and evaluated the most relevant, effective materials, published and transmitted by the media and wrote about it in the press at the end of each quarter', the message said. The President stressed that special attention should be paid to analytical and critical statements. The President also noted that this approach will play an important role in the recognition and evaluation of the decent hard work of journalists. In addition, it will be another factor contributing to the problems raised in these materials. 'It should be noted that our newspapers and magazines, television and radio addresses hot topics, which concern many people, often remain out of sight due to lack of attention to them by representatives of bodies of state power and administration, the public', the message said. As a result, issues raised in these statements remain unresolved which inevitably causes damage to the economy and society, Karimov said. "Today, life itself strongly requires the introduction of an approach to improve the efficiency of the media so that criticised organisations and enterprise officials would be able to objectively evaluate their work and sought to rectify their shortcomings," Karimov said. The president said it will enhance the credibility and prestige of the media and journalists in society and increase their responsibility at the same time. "I am always ready to support, provide the necessary assistance and direct support to journalists who are in constant search," Karimov concluded.
