Qatar Condemns Human Rights Violation in Syria

Geneva, June 27 (QNA) - Qatar has condemned the violation of human rights in Syria, and the brutal massacres committed by the Syrian regime against its own people, saying the scenes of murder and terrorization, perpetrated by the forces of this regime against innocent children, women and elderly people, have become a daily habit that ends up with the claiming of dozens of lives. This came in the speech of the State of Qatar delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, before the twentieth round of the Human Rights Council, currently in session. At the outset of her speech, HE Sheikha Alya said that the land that witnessed great ancient civilizations is now at the door step of a new one, which is the blood civilization, adding that the scenes of killing and terrorization practiced by the forces of this regime against innocent children, women and elderly people, have become a daily habit that edns up with the claiming of dozens of lives of freedom seekers. She added that the State of Qatar condemns in the strongest terms the violations of human rights in Syria, that has been going on for over a year, during which the international community tried to contain the situation through regional and international initiatives that the regime accepted voluntarily, and then failed, betting on the time that passed to change the demands of freedom into a survival desire amid the bullets and cannon fires that killed thousands before the eyes of the entire world. Sheikha Alya cited the massacre of Al-Houla in which, according to the International Commission of Inquiry'sreport, mortar and artillery shells were used and the killing of victims with machineguns and knifes, in addition to the robbing their houses. The report clearly demonstrated that the government forces and militia committed murders, arbitrary arrests, torture and acts of sexual violence against women, men and children, adding that children were the most affected by these actions. Sheikha Alya Ahmed Bin Seif Al Thani made it clear that the international community supported the Annan plan to resolve the crisis in Syria, a plan which the Syrian government did not comply with so far, and that the State of Qatar demanded setting a time frame , and the inclusion of the plan under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, to stop the egregious violations of human rights, which the Syrian regime insists the exercise against its freedom-seeking people. She stressed that the Syrian regime should shoulder its responsibilities towards the protection of its people, adding that it's shameful to hear false stories to justify all these brutal massacres by blaming armed terrorist groups and portraying the situation in Syria as a civil war. Concluding, Sheikha Alya said that faith can achieve miracles and with faith man built civilizations on which achievements' we are still living, and with faith and true will we can certainly stop the bloodshed,so that the Syrian people can enjoy a humanitarian civilization based on freedom.
