POLICE DETAINS TWO SUSPECTS FOR INVOLVEMENT IN CORRUPTION CASE

Manado, N Sulawesi, Oct 14 (ANTARA) - The police arrested LM and RS suspected of involvement in the misuse of natural disaster assistance for a housing project in Tombariri sub-district, Minahasa regency, North Sulawesi.

North Sulawesi Police Chief Brig Gen Bekto Suprapto told the press here on Tuesday that in the handling of corruption cases in the construction of houses for natural disaster victims, the police had detained the two persons.

"The police are still expanding its investigation into the case, so that the number of the suspects may inrease," he said.

The alleged misuse was found in the cost difference of design and building materials. After the construction, the houses could not properly occupied.

Sometimes, the people could not understand, because many of them considered that dealing with corruption cases is as easy as turning one's palm.

In addition, other technical agencies like the Financial Development and Supervision Agency to auditing the state losses, may also be involved, he said.
A spokesman for the North Sulawesi Police Adjunct Commissioner Benny Bella said LM was a contractor, while RS was a field supervisor of the Housing and Regional Infrastructures office of the province. Police were reported to have identified a number of other suspects.

"It is true that the number of suspects is more than two but it can not yet be specified. This is important in the handling of the case," Bella said. ***3***
