Georgian President, EU High Representative stand for acceleration of EU- Georgia negotiations

Georgia, Tbilisi, June 28 / Trend, N.Kirtskhalia / In Brussels Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Catherine Ashton discussed issues of transparency of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia. As Georgian presidential administration told Trend, Saakashvili reaffirmed the readiness to hold democratic and transparent elections, and to this end, to receive many international observers in Georgia. He also reiterated the readiness to provide equal rights to all political parties and create a pre-election situation, in which all parties will have equal access to media outlets. The parties also stressed the progress in the negotiations of Georgia and the EU on the European integration. In particular, Ashton and Saakashvili expressed satisfaction with the progress of negotiations on free trade and visa-free regime and stand for their acceleration. Commenting on the meeting with Ashton, Saakashvili said that he hopes to complete the negotiations within 12-18 months. "It will be a great stimulus for our economy, as the agreement on comprehensive free trade will allow us to create new jobs and increase exports," he said. Do you have any feedback?
