Iranian, Kazakh FMs discussed the prospective directions

Kazakhstan, Astana, 28 June / corr. Trend D. Mukhtarov / Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Kazykhanov met on Wednesday with Iranian minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Akbar Salehi, who arrived for working visit to Astana. The sides discussed the current state and future perspective of bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Iran, issues of cooperation in the framework of international organizations and exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa. "Iran that have a great economic potential and favorable geopolitical location is an important trade partner of Kazakhstan in the Middle East," - said Kazykhanov, expressing confidence that the holding of the 12th session of the Kazakh-Iranian intergovernmental commission will give an additional impetus to the development of bilateral economic and trade ties, joint projects, encouraging mutual investment. Early completion of construction of the railway line along the route Uzen - Gyzylgaya - Bereket - Etrek - Gorgan (Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan - Iran) will be the best transportation route for north-south corridor, and will enhance trade and economic relations between Central Asian states to middle and Near East. This will help realize the great potential for wider cooperation in the field of agriculture, in particular, for the supply of Kazakhstan grain. Referring to the current issue of the Iranian nuclear program, Yerzhan Kazykhanov noted that Kazakhstan supports the resolution of this issue through diplomatic channels, adhering to greater transparency and following international norms and principles of the IAEA. Speaking of coordination in the multilateral format, the foreign ministers of both countries discussed issues of cooperation within the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
