PRESIDENT REMINDS TNI PERSONNEL TO REMAIN NEUTRAL
Surabaya, E Java, Oct 14 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has again reminded National Defense Forces (TNI) personnel to remain neutral in practical politics.
"Maintain your commitment to stay neutral in practical politics. The TNI commitment is upright, namely to the state and nation," President Yudhoyono said at the peak event of TNI's 63rd anniversary at Naval Eastern Fleet Commad here on Tuesday.
On the occasion, the president said that although in the democratic world the government continues to change every five years, TNI's loyalty to the state and nation should stay unmovable.
"TNI belongs to the state and nation, and therefore it will never change," said Yudhoyono, a retired four-star general.
The head of state also said the TNI's reform should not stop but continue to run well.
"The TNI has undergone crucial moments during the past ten years, but its overall transformation takes time," the president said as he acted as inspector of ceremonies to observe the TNI's 63rd anniversary.
On the occasion, President Yudhoyono was accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, and a number of cabinet ministers.
The ceremony was directed by Lt Gen George Toisutta and participated in by around 5,554 TNI personnel, foreign countries representatives, and retired army generals.
Various attractions such as military parade, flying pass by a number of TNI aircrafts and helicopters, sailing pass by some 20 warships would be performed before the president and vice president.
In addition, around a hundred navy personnel would swim across Madura strait to Eastern Fleet Command wharf in Surabaya.
A total of 3,698 personnel from Military Academy and TNI would take part in the attractions.
Besides military parade and the attractions in the peak event of the TNI's 63rd anniversary, various military's main armament systems (alutsista) were also put on show.
