Over 63% in poll in favour for NASA to use U-Tapao

BANGKOK, June 24 (TNA) - Up to 63.5 per cent of total respondents in a poll conducted recently by Assumption University ABAC Poll is in favour for the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to use U-Tapao airport as a base for conducting atmospheric studies. The survey was conducted among people living in 17 provinces nationwide and follow political situation in the country constantly. The survey on the current heated issue was conducted as NASA has informed the Thai government that the permission to use U-Tapao must be given by this Tuesday otherwise it might cancel the project because it has to bring in equipment in advance. Those in favour for the NASA’s project said Thailand should be equipped with good natural disaster warning system. The kingdom was hit by severe flood in which more than 800 people were perished late last year. On political scene, the same survey also found that up to 45.3 per cent out of the total respondents wanted Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to continue governing the country. Only 25.6 per cent of the respondents wanted the prime minister to reshuffle her cabinet and less than 10 per cent wanted the cabinet to resign. (TNA)
