Al Attiyah Attends Seminar on Qatar?s initiative for Global Dry Land Alliance

Rio de Janeiro, June 22 (QNA) - HE Chairman of Administrative Control Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah who is also the President of the Conference of climate change (COP18 ) attended the seminar which was held at Qatar pavilion at the exhibition accompanying the Rio +20 Conference, currently in session in Brazil. The seminar was attended also by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah, HE Nassir Bin Abdulaziz Al Nasser President of the UN General Assembly, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, as well as a number of ambassadors accredited to the Republic of Brazil. The seminar discussed the Qatar's initiative for Global Dry Land Alliance, aims to actively contribute to achieving global food security, where Chairman of Qatar National Programme for Food Security Fahd Bin Mohammad Al Attiyah underlined that this initiative is to complement Qatar's efforts in its quest to achieve food security through international partnership with countries with dry climate. The idea of Global Dry Land Alliance came after deep analysis of the challenges faced by arid countries and objective diagnosis to fill gaps in regional and international cooperation on food security. Addressing the seminar UN Chief Ban Ki-moon expressed his support for the initiative which will contribute in cooperation with relevant international organizations to helping the arid countries to find scientific and practical effective solutions to provide food security. He voiced his thanks the State of Qatar for the adoption of this pioneering initiative . It is to be noted that Qatar exhibition has hosted several specialized seminars in sustainable development, including the Qatar's National Strategy as well as energy water, and food security management. Many publications that review Qatar efforts in its quest to achieve sustainable development in addition to some of the projects, including Musheireb real estate project were also displayed . The exhibition will conclude on June 24. (QNA)
