M'SIA'S ECONOMY HAS DOMESTIC RESILIENCE TO ACHIEVE 5 PCT GROWTH THIS YEAR

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's economy has the "domestic resilience" to register five percent economic growth this year, Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak assured Tuesday.

"For this year, we're confident our country has the domestic resilience to
face the uncertainties in the global economic landscape which is getting serious
and will surely have an impact on our country," he said.

Najib, who is also Finance Minister, gave an assurance that Malaysia would
not slip into a recession this year.

"We're still confident of achieving a reasonable economic growth this year,
our projection is that we can still manage to register a five percent
growth.

"However, we need to revisit our growth projection for next year, as we
need
to take into account developments in the world economy which are becoming
increasingly critical," he told a media conference after attending the
Lower House of Parliament session.

Reiterating that the government was closely monitoring developments
unravelling in the global economic scene, the deputy prime minister said fresh
pre-emptive measures in the form of "stabilisation plan" would be decided
and announced on Monday.
