Rio de Janeiro, June 21 (QNA) - On behalf of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, HE Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, who is also the President of the Climate Change Conference (COP18) and head of Qatar's delegation to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20), has attended the opening ceremony of the Rio +20 summit. Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Khalid Bin Mohamed Al Attiyah and members of the delegation accompanying HE the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Chairman have attended the opening ceremony. Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff has inaugurated the summit, which will continue until June 23 with the participation of more than 100 world leaders. The event follows on from the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, during which countries adopted Agenda 21, a blueprint to re-think economic growth, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection. The conference is on two themes including a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication and the institutional framework for sustainable development. It seeks to shape new policies to promote global prosperity, reduce poverty and advance social equity and environmental protection. (QNA)
