Tourism on Thailand's Phi Phi Island remains normal
KRABI, THAILAND, June 21 (TNA) - A local tourism business association says that tourism on Thailand's renowned Phi Phi Island has remained normal, despite recent death of two Canadian female tourists.
Weerapat Chantaro, head of the local tourism business association, acknowledged Thursday that some 30-40 per cent of hotel rooms on the Phi Phi Island have remained booked after the death of the two Canadian sisters on June 15, the normal situation for the so-called annual low-season, and there have been no cancelation of reserved hotel rooms.
Weerapat, however, called for investigators' fast probe into the cause of the death of the two Canadian sisters, as soon as possible, to prevent the case to affect local tourism, as spreading criticisms or unilateral messages, particularly through the Internet, could erode confidence among international tourists.
The two Canadian sisters, 20-year-old Audrey and 25-year-old Noemi Balanger, were found dead at a room of the Palm Residence Hotel on the Phi Phi Island of Thailand's southern resort Kabi province on June 15 with no wounds on their bodies and no sign of violence. (TNA)
