Doha, June 19 (QNA) - The General Secretariat for Development Planning (GSDP) takes part in Rio+20, United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development due to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 20-22, 2012. At the Rio+20 Conference, world leaders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, will come together to shape how we can reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet to get to the future we want. On the sidelines of the conference, GSDP organizes tomorrow a meeting under the theme of "Qatar's commitment to sustainable development: a forward-looking vision" which sheds light on sustainability policies and programs as part of Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030 and the first National Development Strategy NDS 2011-2016 a far-sighted framework built on the principles of sustainable development and intergenerational equity. The meeting, which will be chaired by GSDP Secretary-General, Dr. Saleh bin Mohammed Al Nabet, addresses also the challenges of sustainable development in Qatar, including climate change. Speaking at the meeting are representatives from GSDP, Qatar Science and Technology Park (QTSP), Qatar Petroleum (QP) and the Ministry of Environment. Rio+20 Conference focuses on two themes of " A green economy in the context of sustainable development poverty eradication " and " The institutional framework for sustainable development."
