Firework factory blast in Central Thailand, no casualties reported

THAILAND, June 9 (TNA) - An explosion occurred at a firework factory in Thailand's central Suphanburi province Friday night, but there were no reports of deaths or injuries. The explosion, however, set off fires at the factory’s warehouses and nearby residential areas. Initial reports said that three warehouses, three houses and four cars were damaged by the blast and subsequent fires, which also caused a big hole of over three metres wide and over two metres deep. The cause of the firework plant explosion has remained unknown, but an official investigation has been launched. The area has been condoned off for public safety. The firework factory is located in Muang district’s Suan Taeng sub-district. It is owned by a member of the sub-district administrative organization. Chief of the Don Pho Thong Sub-district Administrative Organization Saiyon Srisuk acknowledged that damages were limited, as the blazes were put down quickly, and that costs related to the explosion have been initially estimated around two million baht.
