GOVT DEVELOPS INFRASTRUCTURE NEAR PNG BORDER

Jayapura, Papua, Oct. 14 (ANTARA) - The central government has allocated funds for infrastructure development in East Arso District, Keerom, Papua Province, near the border with Papua New Guinea, a local official said.

East Arso district was established on November 5, 2007, according to East Arso Sub District Head Nathan Bonai here on Tuesday.

The infrastructure being developed include houses for the public, libraries, local administration offices, a multipurpose hall and elementary school buildings.

The government was also planning to develop public health, clean water supply, and electricity supply facilities for people living in the border area, he said.

At Skapro/Skotiau kampong, for instance, some 31 modest but healthy houses were being constructed, he said. At Suskun kampong, 30 houses were built, and at Yeti 20 houses.

Two libraries were being built respectively at Wambes kampong and at an oil palm plantation area belonging to plantation company PT Nusantara II .

Four office buildings have been built respectively at Pyawi, Yeti, Wambes and Yamara kampongs.

The Papua provincial and Koreem district administrations have provided a total of Rp1.1 billion for 11 kampongs in East Asro, where each kampong had received Rp100 million for the economic empowerment of local people, Bonay said.
