EXPORTS OF COMMODITIES FROM MALAYSIA EXPECTED TO MATCH LAST YEAR`S TOTAL

PETALING JAYA (Malaysia), Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Exports of commodities from Malaysia
are expected to match last years's total of RM97 billion (US$27.7 billion),
Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui said
Monday.

He said though there may be an impact from global financial crisis, the
commodities sector was still strong and steps needed to be taken to ensure
better return for the commodities.

The measure that could be taken included a stock and supply management
scheme that should be carried out continuously among major rubber producers,
namely Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, he added.

Chin said the implementation of mandatory biofuel would help to boost the
crude palm oil (CPO) market.

"Malaysia is looking at effective implementation of mandatory biofuel use.
An announcement will be made soon on this proposal," he said.
