Ihsanoglu receives Mission of Alliance for Somalia's
Jeddah, October 13, SPA -- The Secretary General of the Organization
of Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu received here
yesterday, a delegation of the Alliance for the Re-liberation of
Somalia headed by its leader Sheikh Sharif Ahamad.
The meeting reviewed the latest political, security and humanitarian
situation in Somalia as well as the international efforts aimed at
implementing the Djibouti Agreement signed on August 19, 2008 between
the Transitional Federal Government and the Alliance for the
Re-liberation of Somalia.
Professor Ihsanoglu reiterated the determination of the OIC as an
Observer to the Djibouti Agreement to contribute to the return of
durable peace and sustainable development in Somalia.
The Secretary General expressed the OIC's grave concern on the
growing phenomenon of piracy off the coast of Somalia and called upon
all Somalis to combat this menace which adversely affects peace and
security as well as the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the
needy people of Somalia.
