Myanmar president to visit Thailand after WEF

BANGKOK, May 28 (TN A) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed by the Myanmar government that Myanmar President Thein Sein cannot attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia 2012, to be held in Bangkok from May 30-June 1, 2012, but he will pay an official visit to Thailand from June 4-5. Thai Foreign Ministry Spokesman Thani Thongpakdi said on Monday that the Myanmar President will necessarily be in the country during the forthcoming WEF on East Asia hosted by Thailand and he has, therefore, assigned the Myanmar energy minister to attend the two-day WEF on East Asia on his behalf at Bangkok's Shangri-La Hotel. Thani acknowledged that four regional leaders, including those of Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos and Bahrain, have already accepted the invitation to attend the upcoming WEF on East Asia. Meanwhile, the organizer confirmed that Myanmar pro-democracy opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi will attend the WEF on East Asia 2012 in the Thai capital later this week at a leader session at 8am on June 1.
