AICHR representative calls for political effort on ASEAN human rights

BANGKOK, May 27 (TNA) - ASEAN human rights body (AICHR) calls for a courageous leap of political effort among ASEAN leaders, in an attempt to establish common human rights standards by this year. Dr. Sriprapa Petcharamesree, the Thai representative to AICHR, advocated Friday in Bangkok, that ASEAN leaders ensure the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration would not fail to meet international standards. Dr. Sriprapa also urged for more commitment to AICHR from each member state, in order to create an effective regional human rights mechanism before the start of the ASEAN Community in 2015. Press sources say AICHR and concerned parties are set to finalize on drafting ASEAN’s rights declaration by July this year. (TNA)
