Azerbaijan supports Iran`s detente policies on Caucasus

Tehran, Oct 13, IRNA - The Azerbaijan Republic ambassador to Iran voiced on Sunday the Baku government's support for Tehran's detente policies on the sensitive region of Caucasus.

Abbasali Karam Oghlou Hasanov added that his country completely agrees
with Iran in this respect. "We support these efforts," he noted.

Hasanov, who was talking to reporters in Tehran on the country's
presidential elections on Wednesday, announced Iran's proposal to
establish 3+3 group comprising Georgia, Azerbaijan Republic and
Armenia plus Iran, Russia and Turkey.

The two countries' stance vis-a-vis establishing security and
stability in the region is just the same without even the slightest
difference, he said.

Commenting on the preparations made to hold fair elections, he also
announced that an Iranian six-man delegation will leave for Baku on
Monday to observe the trend of polling.

Azerbaijan has tried to incorporate the best democratic principles
into its elections laws in a bid to enable the public to freely
participate in polls.

Describing Tehran-Baku relations as growing, he said that they have
launched cooperation in new fields.

The two countries have good experience in oil and gas sectors which
will help promote collaboration between them, he noted.

As to the stance of Azerbaijan regarding a possible US military
adventurism against Iran and likelihood of Baku's permission to
Washington to use its territory for the purpose, he categorically
rejected it and said that two years ago President Aliyev frankly told
his US counterpart that Iran is his country's ancient friend and
brother.

"We are neighbors and will never allow anybody to use Azerbaijani soil
against Iran," he stressed.
