NPT has totally failed in disarmament of member states: Larijani

Tehran, Oct 13, IRNA - Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that the Non-Proliferation Treaty has totally failed in disarmament of the member states.

The Iranian Speaker made the remarks prior to his departure for
Geneva, Switzerland, where he is to attend the Inter-Parliamentary
Union (IPU) meeting to be held from October 13-16.

He added that he will discuss the issue of Iran's peaceful nuclear
program during the IPU meeting if it is placed on the agenda of the
gathering.

Issues such as environment, disarmament, world financial crisis, and
clean energy will top the agenda of talks to be held in the IPU
sessions, Larijani said.

In addition to delivering a speech at the IPU meeting, the Speaker is
to meet with his counterparts from various countries on the sidelines
of the meeting.

Speakers and representatives from over 140 countries will participate
in the event.

Larijani will then proceed to Finland from Geneva on a two-day visit.

Larijani is to review bilateral cooperation as well as the latest
regional and international developments with several senior Finnish
officials.
