HOUSE CONDUCTS TEST ON WOULD-BE SUPREME COURT JUDGES

Jakarta, Oct 13 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission III (legal affairs) started to conduct a fit-and-proper test on 18 candidate Supreme Court judges on Monday.

House Commission III vice chairman Suripto said on the sidelines of the test at the legislative building that six of the 18 candidates would be selected through the test and the names of the successful ones would be submitted to the government before they were installed as Supreme Court judges.

"Six selected candidates will be announced after a plenary session and the decision will be taken through voting," Suripto said, adding that of the 18 candidates, six had a non-career and the rest a judicial career background.

Suripto added that the 18 candidates had passed selection stage at Judicial Commission before taking part in the fit-and-proper test by the House Commission III.

Asked about the test's subject material, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician said the focus of the test was more on the candidates' integrity and commitment.

"Through the fit-and-proper test we are going to see their integrity and commitment to make the difference and reform in the Supreme Court," Suripto said.

The candidates of Supreme Court judges are among others Andi Abu Ayyub Saleh of Hassanuddin University in Makassar, Andi Ware Pasinringi (PT Banka Belitung deputy chairman), Rusli Muhammad of Indonesian Muslim University in Yogyakarta, barita Siringo-Ringo (deputy chairman of Surabaya State Administrative Court, PTUN), Soemarno (Bengkulu High Court chief), Kimar Saragih Siadari (chief of Medan High Court), Djafni Djamal (chief of Mataram Hight Court), Mahdi Soroinda Nasution (chief of Pekanbaru High Court), Sosmala Sitorus (chief of West Kalimantan High Court), Muhammad Ramli (chief of North Maluku High Court), I Gusti Made Antara (deputy chairman of Mataram High Court), Sugeng Akhmad Judhi (deputy chief of Palangkaraya High Court), Syamsul Ma'arif (Business Competition Monitoring Commission chairman), and Nyoman Serikat Putra Jaya of Diponegoro University in Semarang.
