BEI`S COMPOSITE INDEX STILL UNDER PRESSURE IN MONDAY'S REOPENING
Jakarta, Oct 13 (ANTARA) - Trading at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) was resumed on Monday morning with the composite share price index (IHSG) down by 62.855 points or 4.32 percent from the level when it was closed on October 10, 2008.
Share trading was still dominated by selling activities by market players in an attempt to divert their funds to more profitable sectors.
"Under the current conditions we had better safeguard our money and divert it to safer sectors," market player Harry Kurniawan of the Asia Kapitalindo Sekuritas, said here on Monday.
The selling activity lasted until 10.35 (JATS) on Monday, where 125 falling stocks dominated those increasing nine ones while 20 others kept their prices stable. A total of 303 stocks were not traded on Monday morning.
Blue chips which saw declines included those of PT Telkom, Indosat, Gas Negara, PT Timah, Tambang Batubra Bukit Asam.
Stocks of state companies which experienced price increases included those of Semen Gresik, Wijaya Karya.
The BEI reopened trading activities on Monday at 9.30 JATS (Jakarta Automatic Trading System).
The BEI authority decided to shut share trading in the first session at 11:08 a.m. on Wednesday because the composite index had tumbled to 168.052 points or 10.38 percent to the level of 1,451,669 or the lowest level since September 2006.
Thursday through Friday morning trading was closed after the Dow Jones index at the New York Stock Exchange had dropped 678.91 points to 8,579.19 points, or to the lowest level since 2003.
