Thai public, private agencies promote eco-industries

BANGKOK, May 21 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Industry's Department of Industrial Works has signed an agreement with IRPC Public Company Limited to jointly promote eco-industries under the so-called Eco Industrial Complex initiative. Under the agreement, IRPC will apply the Eco Concept at its plants in Thailand's eastern Rayong province and introduce the concept to interested investors. The Eco Concept, meanwhile, emphasizes on sustainable development and co-existence between industries and communities. The concept took some 15 years to be first implemented overseas and it is considered not too late for Thailand to apply it. Four Thai industrial parks are applying the Eco Concept, including 304 of them in Prachin Buri province in the Thai East, Suzuki Motor Co. in Bangkok's suburban Pathum Thani province and factories of the Sahapat Group, a leading Thai consumer products manufacturer, in Sri Racha district of Chon Buri province, also in the Thai East, and in Kabin Buri district of Prachin Buri province. IRPC President Atikom Terbsiri said that eco-industries help save resources and cut costs, raw materials, pollution and waste, as well as increase the values of products and services, promote their marketing and competitiveness on the world market and develop a positive image of Thai industries in the eyes of local communities.
