Baku Metro to operate round-the-clock during Eurovision Song Contest 2012

Azerbaijan, Baku, May 16 / Trend, E.Ismayilov / Baku Metro will operate a round-the-clock service during the semi-finals and final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, Baku subway assistant chief Mammad Bayramov told Trend on Wednesday. He said Baku Metro's operating schedule during these days has already been approved and Baku Metro is ready to ensure transportation of residents and guests round-the-clock. "The operating schedule during the semi-finals and final of the contest has already been approved. Accordingly, Metro will operate round-the-clock on May 22, 24 and 26," Bayramov said. Baku Metro has 23 stations with a line length of 34.6 kilometres. Every year Baku Metro carries 200 million passengers. The newest subway station today is Darnagul, which was opened on June 29, 2011. The semi-finals of the contest will be held on May 22 and May 24, while the final is on May 26. The logo for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest is 'Fire Flower', while the motto is Light your fire. The 57th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the Baku Crystal Hall. The arena has a capacity for up to 23,000 spectators. Approximately 16,000 people will be able to attend each of the three Eurovision Song Contest live shows. Azerbaijan won the right to host the prestigious European song contest after the victory of Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell / Nikki) at Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany last May.
