Kazakh population increases in number by 0.4 per cent over three months

Kazakhstan, Astana, May 15 / Trend, D. Mukhtarov/ As of April 1, 2012, the population level hit 16.734.5 million people in Kazakhstan, the Kazakh Statistics Agency reported. "The country's population was 16.734 million people, including an urban population of 9.15 million (54.7 per cent) and a rural one of 7.583 million people (45.3 per cent). Compared to early 2012, the population in the whole country increased by 59,100, or 0.4 per cent," the agency said. According to the agency, a migration surplus emerged in the country in January-March 2012, which amounted to 3778 people. 'The number of whose who arrived and those who departed from Kazakhstan increased by 1.3 and 15.1 per cent respectively compared to January-March 2011. The main migration exchange occurs with the CIS states. A share of those who arrived from the CIS countries and left for these countries hit 83.5, and 94.9 per cent respectively', the Statistics Agency reported. According to the agency the number of migrants who moved within the country, decreased by 5.6 per cent. On inter-regional movements, a population migration surplus is observed in the five regions of the country including the largest of them in Astana (5691) and the Mangistau region (3033 people).
