GOVT TO BUILD TOLL ROAD FROM SOEKARNO-HATTA AIRPORT TO TANGERANG

Tangerang, Oct 12 (ANTARA) - The government will construct a toll road which connects Soekarnto-Hatta international airport with Alam Sutera in Tangerang, Banten, hoping the turnpike will become operational in 2010 or early in 2011, a regional government official said here on Sunday.

Head of Tangerang Regional Government for Information and Communications Affairs, Saeful Rohman said that land clearance to make way for the construction of the road would start early in 2009.

The toll road will stretch 17 km from the airport to Alam Sutera area in Tangerang. It constitutes a short-cut turnpike that will connect the airport with the Serpong-Jakarta toll road, which has a length of 21 km.

The new toll road will pass through a number of sub-districts in Tangerang city such as the districts of Pinang, Cipondoh, Batu Ceper, Benda while in Tangerang district the toll road will pass through Serpong and Bintaro subdistricts.

Rohaman said the aim of the construction of the toll road which would connect the Alam Sutera area with the airport was to present an open access from the South Jakarta and Tangerang areas.

Thus, toll users heading from South Jakarta and Tangerang to the Indonesian biggest airport could use the new toll road section. It is expected that with the completion of the turnpike, congestions in Soedyatmo toll road which often took place so far could be reduced, he said.

Rohaman said that the construction of the toll road which would be built at a cost of Rp3 trillion would be carried out by investors from Indonesia and Malaysia in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works.

According to Saeful Rohman, the Rp3 trillion funds included the costs for land clearance, feasibility studies and planning which were now still under a process.
