SOME 120 SAIL BOATS ARRIVE IN BELITUNG

Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung, Oct. 11 (ANTARA) - Some 120 sail boats participating in the Sail Indonesia 2008, on Friday arrived at Tanjung Kelayang coast, Belitung District, Bangka Belitung (Babel) Province, Sumatra Island.
"The presence of the sail boats in Belitung is a good chance to promote tourism objects in the province," Yan Megawandi, chairman of the Bangka Belitung provincial tourism office, said.
The Sail Indonesia 2008 participants are staying in Belitung from October 10 to 15, 2008. As part of the event, the Bangka Belitung administration will launch a "Visit Babel Archi 2010' promotion on Sunday (Oct. 12).
The 120 participating boats are from 15 countries in Europe, America, Australia, Asia and Africa.
The boats started from Darwin (Australia) on July 26, 2008, and headed to Kupang-Alor-Lambata -Maumere-Ende-Riung-Labuhan Bajo-
Makasar-Bali-Karimun Jawa-Kumai, and finally to Belitung as the finish line.
The Sail Indonesia event is organized by the Indonesian Marine Foundation YCBI and supported by the ministry of culture and tourism.
Indonesia plans to organize the Sail Indonesia 2009 Western Passage which will begin from Darwin to Kupang on the 2nd or 3rd Saturday in July next year.
During the following three months, the next year's participants will be entertained with a series of Cultural Festivals at different locations throughout Indonesia such as the islands of Alor, Lembata, Flores, Sulawesi, Bali, Java, Borneo and finally to Batam, just south of Singapore.
