EARTHQUAKE SHAKES SUKABUMI ON SATURDAY
Sukabumi, West Java, Oct. 11 (ANTARA) - An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale shook Sukabumi District, on Saturday at 11.24 am local time, causing a number of residents to panic.
The earthquake's epicenter was located at 6.99 degrees southern latitude and 106.73 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 10 km below the land surface, around 22 km southwest of Sukabumi.
The temblor was felt by residents of Cibadak at the third level of MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity), and at II-MMI in Pelabuhan Ratu as well as Sukabumi.
"My family members rushed out of our home when the earthquake hit for about five seconds," Dayat, a Nagrak inhabitant, said.
He said almost all of his neighbors also fled their homes as the earthquake was quite strong.
Earlier Saturday at 4.26 local time, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Madiun, East Java Province.
The quake's epicenter was located at 7.79 degrees southern latitude and 111.43 degrees eastern longitude, at depth of around 9 Km under the land surface, around 20 km southwest of Madiun.
The temblor was felt at the second level of MMI by residents of Nganjuk and Karangkates, East Java Province.
There was no report of damages or casualties in both earthquakes
