M'SIAN PM HOPES TO FULFILL PROMISE BEFORE NEXT MARCH
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad
Badawi, who has announced he would not seek re-election as Umno president, said today he hopes to fulfill his promise "to settle everything" including
introducing several reforms in the government before March next year when he is
due to hand over power.
"I always wanted to see everything settled. That has always been my hope
and if whatever I have done can contribute to that I'm happy. If it does not
contribute to that what can I do?" he said told reporters after opening
Gerakan's 37th national delegates conference at the party headquarters at Menara
PGRM, here.
Abdullah, who is also National Front (Barisan Nasional) (BN) chairman, was
asked if he could
fulfill his promise to initiate several reforms, including setting up of an
independent Anti-Corruption Commission, before handing over power to Deputy
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak in March.
Abdullah said that in the meantime he would continue doing his job and
go
about his duties as the prime minister.
"I have a job to do, I will do what I want to do. I made my decision and I
will go ahead with my decision," he said.
To a question about the Opposition harping on his leadership and
threatening to overthrow the BN government through a vote of no-confidence in
Parliament, he said: "I am not here to tell whether they are going to or not
going to do it. We all know how the Opposition behaves."
