RI PRESIDENT HOPES 2008 ABG WILL RESULT IN HARMONY AMONG PEOPLE
Jakarta, Oct 10 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono hoped the 2008 Asian Beach Games (ABG), to be held in Bali from October 18 to 26, 2008, would foster harmony among peoples.
"We want the world to unite further to build cooperation and true partnership, no more fights or clashs of civilizations," the president said here Friday after dedicating the the ABG torch parade here Friday.
The president said that this event could effectively build a harmonious relationship among many civilizations since athletes from Asia came to participate in this competition to build friendship, harmony and for familiarization of each other's traditions.
Meanwhile, the minister of people's welfare, Aburizal Bakrie, said that the flame of the torch was taken from the mortal fire source in Merapen, Central Java.
Among those who come to the ABG torch release are minister/ state secretay Hatta Radjasa, minister of home affairs Mardiyanto, minister of trade Mari Pangestu, and former governor of Jakarta Sutiyoso.
