KALLA: RI GENERAL ELECTIONS WORLD'S MOST COMPLICATED

Padang, Oct 10 (ANTARA) - The general chairman of Golkar Party, Jusuf Kalla, said here on Friday that the general elections in Indonesia were the most complicated in the world.
"No general elections in other countries are as complicated as those in Indonesia," he said, adding that 38 parties will participate in the general elections next year, and the number of candidates will be large while their time is long covering elections in four stages from district, provincial, regional and national level."
He made the statement at a meeting with the party's legislative candidates from West Sumatra.
In connection with campaigns, Kalla said that every village would be full of pictures, posters, billboards and others including up to 10,000 pictures of Golkar candidates. "Just multiply them to 38. I do not know what Padang city would look like later," he said.
On the occasion he explained about the difference between the national general elections (Pemilu) and the regional elections (Pilkda). He said in the Pemilu people choose parties that are supported by the people while in Pilkada people choose persons who are supported by parties.
In view of that, he said it would not be parties that conducted much campaign that would win but also electability of candidates that were selected by parties that would also determine victory.
Kalla on the occasion also suggested a change in the number system for determining candidates to majority vote system. "So only candidates who are really popular and loved, and dedicated to the people and not those only known by party chairman would be elected," he said.
