QFA Inaugurates HH the Emir Cup Museum in Katara
Doha, May 02 (QNA) The Qatari Football Association (QFA) inaugurated on Thursday HH the Emir Cup Museum in Katara to celebrate four decades of the tournament. The Emir Cup trophy and football-related memorabilia will be put on display at Katara, the cultural district in the Qatari capital, it was announced today.
Qatar Football Association (QFA) secretary general Saud Al Mohannadi and Director of Marketing, QFA, Khalid Mubarak Al Kuwari said the Emir Cup Museum at Katara has been devised to celebrate four decades of the tournament since it first launched in sports season 1972-1973.
"This museum at Katara is a special one for the football fans because they can see the tradition and history of the sport in the country," Al Mohannadi said. "QFA has a long history and fans can see all that by paying Katara a visit in the next three or four days," he added.
Qatar Football Association (QFA) Secretary General Saud Al Mohannadi further said that the museum will be "a special one" for the football fans because it will allow them to see the tradition and history of the tournament. He added that QFA has a long history and will display a number of memorabilia to reflect that, so that the fans would be able to enjoy it when they visit Katara.
The Katara display of football memorabilia begins May 3 to 7. For his part, Director of Marketing, QFA, Khalid Mubarak Al Kuwari said, "This campaign has been devised to celebrate 40 years of the tournament. This is by far the biggest football event in Qatar." "We are doing this so that the fans can know about the clubs, the jerseys the players wore at a certain period of time. Fans can also see the past Emir Cup trophies. It is the first time we are doing it and this programme is going to stay. I am sure the fans will like the idea of going to a football museum," Al-Kuwari added.
The Director of Marketing thanked officials of Katara for their cooperation in making the project of a museum into a reality and said that the museum was arranged to promote the Emir Cup. He added that Fans can also see the past Emir Cup trophies and see vintage photos of past Emir Cup editions and club players at the museum.
The Emir Cup final will be held on May 12. The quarterfinals will be staged on May 5 whereas the semifinals are slated for May 8.
