-(ECO) TURKEY-YEMEN JEC MEETING TO TAKE PLACE ON OCTOBER 12

ANKARA (A.A) - 10.10.2008 - Turkish State Minister Nazim Ekren will chair Turkey-Yemen Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting in Yemen on October 12-13, 2008.
According to a written statement by Foreign Trade Undresecretariat, Turkish exports to Yemen rose by 38 percent and reached 274 million USD in 2007 when compared to the previous year.
Iron and steel products comprise 65 percent of Turkish exports to Yemen, whereas others are machinery, flour, starch, equipment, carpet, as well as foodstuffs.
Turkish Airlines started Istanbul-Sana direct flights, contributing to the boosting of relations.
Closeness of Yemen to Middle East countries as well as East African market is very important for Turkey to open to the markets in question.
Current commercial and economic relations, technical cooperation, cooperation opportunities in agriculture, industry, transportation, contractor services and tourism are expected to be discussed at the JEC meeting.
