UNCTAD Secretary General Calls for Human Globalization

Doha, April 22 (QNA) - Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi has called for Globalization with human features that provide job opportunities for the youth and women so as to achieve balanced growth for all the countries. UNCTAD Chief stressed the importance to invest in manpower to reinforce the development policies worldwide, considering that the poor humanitarian situation and inequality were the core reasons of the Arab Spring. He pointed out that growth is linked to other issues and not only trade, noting that the Latin American countries had adopted in its economies on the agricultural investments. He also called for a thorough analysis of economic issues and the need to deal with the elements of productivity in a way to enhance growth. He considered that what had a negative impact on the economies of countries is the high interest rate, stressing that the only way to get out of the economic problem is the reduction of interest rates and the devaluation of the currency, stressing the need for logical economic analysis. Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi criticized the performance of the WTO on the failure "of the Doha Round," . He expressed his thanks to the Government of Qatar on the good organization of the conference that will contribute to reinforcing global development.(QNA)
