Speaker: Azerbaijan and Ukraine are strategic allies

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 19 / Trend M. Aliyev / Azerbaijan and Ukraine are strategic allies, Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Oqtay Asadov said during a meeting with Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Chairman Vladimir Litvin. Asadov said that the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine have historical roots. Today, Azerbaijan and Ukraine are allies. The presidents play a special role in this issue, he added. Azerbaijan and Ukraine have signed more than 120 interstate and intergovernmental agreements. Asadov also said that over 500,000 Azerbaijanis live in Ukraine today. They play an important role in the socio-economic development, as well as the development of bilateral relations. Asadov talked about the Azerbaijani socio-economic development. He said that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict poses serious obstacles to the development of the country and peace in the region. He expressed gratitude to Ukraine for a fair position. Litvin stressed the importance of mutual visits in the development of relations between the two countries. "We attach great importance to expanding our relations and think that the friendly relations between the heads of our countries will create the conditions for further expansion of our cooperation," Litvin said.
