Qatar Opens Davis Cup Campaign with Victory

Doha, April 18 (QNA) - Qatar opened their campaign in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Zone Group IV 2012 Tie with a narrow 2-1 victory over Cambodia at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex on Tuesday. Qatar s Jabor Al-Motawa thrashed the Cambodian counterpart Hong Nuji (2-0), as Qatar team confidently defeated their opponents in the double event (7-6 7-6) Also in Tuesday s encounters, KSA outclassed Iraq (3-0) as Turkmenistan defeated Bahrain (3-0) and Cambodia thrashed Singapore (3-0). Davis Cup is the international team tennis competition sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation. In 2011, 130 nations entered Davis Cup by BNP Paribas, making it the world's largest annual international team competition in sport. Nations participating in the prestigious event in Doha include: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Myanmar, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, UAE, Qatar and Cambodia. (QNA)
