PRESIDENT DEDICATES BANI UMAR MOSQUE IN TANGERANG

Tangerang, Oct 10 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here on Friday dedicated Bani Umar grand mosque which was built by the family of the late former Vice President Umar Wirahadikusuma.

The dedication of the mosque on Jalan Graha Bintaro Raya in the Pondok Aren area in Tangerang district was preceded by the reading of verses from the Holy Koran.

On the occasion President Yudhoyono was accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Religous Affairs Minister Maftuh Basyuni, Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto, and Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa.

After dedicating the mosque, the president and his entourage performed Friday prayers in it.
The three-story Bani Umar grand mosque without a dome was built on a 1.2-hectare plot of land at a total cost of Rp2 billion.

With a tower that is the tallest in Tangerang district, the mosque was built in remembrance of the late former Vice President Umar Wirahadikusuma and to be used as a place of worship and education for poor children in the Pondok Aren area.
