Azerbaijan detains thirteen foreigners for drug smuggling

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 16 / Trend, K.Zarbaliyeva / Thirteen foreigners have been detained in Azerbaijan for drug smuggling over three months and a total of about 40 kg of drugs have been seized from them, the State Commission for Combating Drug Abuse and Drug Trafficking told Trend on Monday. Eight detainees are Iranian citizens, two - Georgian, two - Afghan, one - Russian. Seventeen foreigners were detained for drug trafficking in Azerbaijan over three months of 2011, from whom about 82 kg of drugs were seized. In total, 984 drug-related crime facts were recorded in January-March of 2012, 302 of them were related to drugs sale, 654 - storage, 23 - cultivation of narcotic plants, four - other crimes. In total about 166 kg of different drugs were seized on these crimes: 63 kg of marijuana, about 45 kg - hashish, over 20 kg - opium, about 34 kg - heroin, over 6 kilograms - psychotropic substances, and about 50 kg - precursor.
