Doha: David Rudisha Challenge Season Kicks off in Qatar

Doha April 11 (QNA) - World Athlete of the Year 2010 David Lekuta Rudisha returns to Doha to complete an unfinished job. In 2011 a late withdraw caused by a sudden injury hampered the reigning World Champion s aspirations of further improving his own 1:43.00 meeting record in Doha. "I run in Doha since 2007 but I missed last season s meeting due to injury. I like the city very much and the spectators are great. Doha is always a part of my preparation, the place where I test myself" said David Rudisha at an IAAF conference call today, exactly one month before the inaugural 2012 Samsung Diamond League meeting in Doha on May 11. The lanky Kenyan runner hopes of meeting his destiny at this summer s Olympic Games in London. Rudisha made his first steps in athletics inspired by his father s Daniel 1968 Olympic silver medal with the 4X100m relay team and now the 800m world record holder aims to surpass his ancestor s heroics. "Everybody is training for the Olympics. I feel I am in good shape and I am confident, although I still have to make the Kenyan team. Nobody will go to London to lose. "There is a lot of pressure in my shoulders. It is going to be tough. I want to bring home a medal, maybe gold, so we will have two Olympic medals in my family" added David Rudisha, who didn t rule out running with the Kenyan 4X400m relay team in London. HE Abdullah Al Zaini, President of the Organising Committee of the 2012 Samsung Diamond League in Doha stated at a press conference held today to mark the beginning of the one mount countdown in Qatar s capital that hosts are trying to raise the level of the meeting with big names such as Bekele, Kaki and Rudisha. "Our aim is to attract more spectators by bringing in famous athletes. In the meantime we try to adjust the schedule in order to keep the spectators at the stadium until the end of competition" added Mr. Al Zaini. (QNA)
