8.9-magnitude quake hits off west coast of northern Sumatra

An earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale jolted off the west coast of northern Sumatra at 08:38:30 GMT on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, Xinhua reported. The epicenter, with a depth of 33.00 km, was initially determined to be at 2.0430 degrees north latitude and 92.5180 degrees east longitude.
