HOUSE CONSIDERING NEED TO SUMMON JIMLY ASSHIDDIQIE
Jakarta, Oct 9 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission III is discussing the need of summoning Jimly Asshiddiqie for a hearing on his decision to resign as a Constitutional Court (MK) judge, a spokesman said.
"The plan to do so is being discussed," Aziz Syamsuddin, vice chairman of the House's Commission III, said here Thursday.
Separately, House Speaker Agung Laksono said the House could not accept Asshiddiqie's resignation before knowing the reasons for his exit.
According to Syamsuddin, a Constitutional Court judge could give up his or her job if it was done in accordance with provisions in the law on the Constitutional Court.
Under the law, a Constitutional Court judge could resign because of one of three reasons , namely his or her involvement in a criminal offense, his or her death, or his or her own wish to quit, he said.
Asshiddiqie sent a letter on his resignation to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono last Tuesday (Oct 7).
Before becoming a Constitutional Court judge, he had served as the court's chairman for two consecutive three-year terms since 2003. He was eventually replaced as MK chief by Mahfud MD.
