KL CITY COUNCIL COLLABORATES WITH SINGAPORE IN LIBRARY MANAGEMENT
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- To enhance its library management, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will collaborate with the National Library Board of Singapore (NLB).
Towards this end, DBKL and NLB signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU)
which among others, would ensure they share and exchange information
sources.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Ab Hakim Borhan and NLB chief executive officer Dr N.
Varaprasad were the signatories for the MoU which was inked at the Kuala Lumpur
Library here Thursday.
Ab Hakim hoped DBKL could learn more on information and communication
technology (ICT) in its information delivery system and thus, would be able to
access information more effectively.
"In the knowledge-based economic era, library is a vital learning
institution and it has been made as a criteria to measure the development in
certain areas.
"That is why DBKL established the Kuala Lumpur Library," Ab Hakim said,
adding that there were efforts to upgrade the library to a fully-digitalised
library.
The mayor hoped the collaboration would facilitate the Kuala Lumpur
Library's efforts to provide excellent services, as well as credible and
up-to-date information to clients.
He was also confident the MoU would benefit the two countries
indefinitely.
The Kuala Lumpur Library had also signed MoUs with the Lincoln Resource
Centre of the United States Embassy and the Multimedia Development Corporation
(MDEC).
