SUTANTO TRANSFERS NAT'L POLICE CHIEF'S DUTIES TO DANURI

Jakarta, Oct. 9 (ANTARA) - Retired General Sutanto was scheduled to transfer the duties of National Police Chief to General Bambang Hendarso Danuri at the Police's Mobile Brigade Headquarters at Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java, on Thursday.

With the planned transfer of duties, Danuri would be fully in charge as the new National Police Chief, Inspector General Abubakar Nataprawira, spokesman of the National Police Headquarters, said here on Thursday.
"The new National Police Chief was officially installed by the President on September 30, 2008, and today is the official transfer of duties," he said.
On Thursday evening, the National Police Headquarters was expected to hold a reception to bid farewell to Sutanto who has entered retirement.
Danuri was previously head of the National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono proposed Danuri as the sole candidate for the post of National Police Chief to the Parliament last September as Sutanto had reached retirement age.
The House of Representatives (DPR) at a plenary session last September endorsed the positive outcome of a fit-and-proper test a e House commission had conducted on Danuri.
Danuri's previous posts included North Sumatra Police chief, South Kalimantan Police chief, Jakarta Police's criminal investigation unit head and East Java Police's criminal investigation unit head.
