Turkmen president: CIS countries should streamline mutually beneficial partnership

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, March 30 / Trend, H. Hasanov / During its chairmanship in the CIS, Turkmenistan should make every effort to carry out targeted work to increase the efficiency of a mutually beneficial partnership in the CIS space, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov said at a government meeting, the Turkmen government said on Friday. Turkmenistan presides over the CIS in 2012. "During our presidency in the CIS, we must make all efforts for the successful interaction within the Commonwealth in terms of fulfillment of existing agreements and development of program for further development of cooperation," the Turkmen leader said. The government meeting considered the outcome of the 53rd meeting of the Economic Council of the CIS member-states held on March 19-20 in Moscow. It considered the issues of integration interaction in the economic sphere. They include the implementation of the Interstate program of innovation cooperation of the CIS states for a period until 2020, making amendments to the Agreement on coordinated policy in the sphere of standardization, metrology and certification, as well as a draft concept of liberalization of financial services market of the CIS states. Particular attention was paid to the key target macroeconomic indicators of economic development of the CIS member states and activity of the Interstate Council for the Protection of Industrial Property. The International Economic Forum "CIS and new format of Eurasian integration" will be held as part of the meeting, during which the prospects for development of partnership in the sphere of communication and information, innovation and investment will be discussed. In 2005, Ashgabat referring to status of permanent neutrality, recognized and supported by the United Nations, decided on its participation in the structure of the CIS as an associated member.
