Georgian - South Ossetian border to be closed

The border of the separatist South Ossetia and Georgia will be closed for a day as part of measures to ensure the safe process of the so-called presidential elections, region's de-facto authorities told RIA Novosti on Saturday.
"It has been decided to close the border for a day. The pass through simplified entry points in Mosabrun, Artsevi, Sinagur and Karzman settlements will be closed for citizens in the evening of March 24. The border will be opened after the polls have closed - at 20.00 by Moscow time, March 25," the source said.
Re-election of the so-called president of the separatist South Ossetia will take place on March 25. The results of the last so-called elections occurred on November 27, 2011 were declared invalid because of irregularities.
Military actions were launched in the Georgian territory, South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008. Later the Russian troops occupied the Tskhinvali city and drove the Georgian military back.
Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced two unrecognized republics as the occupied territories.
