Football star to get married in December

SEOUL, Oct. 8 (Yonhap) -- A popular South Korean football player and son of a legendary former Germany-based striker will tie the knot in December, an official said Wednesday.

Cha Du-ri, the 28-year-old playing for TuS Koblenz of Germany's second-tier
league, will marry a South Korean woman a year older on Dec. 22 in Seoul, the
official said.
Cha is the son of Bum-kun who created a sensation in Germany's Bundesliga in the
1970-80's and is considered the best Asian striker that ever played in Europe.
The senior Cha now coaches Suwon Samsung Bluewings of South Korea's domestic
K-League.
Cha Du-ri will launch a foundation dedicated to helping further the education of
poor children in his country, the Bluewings official said, adding the funds will
come from wedding donations.
Cha was part of South Korea's national squad when it reached the semifinals of
the 2002 World Cup jointly hosted by Japan and South Korea. He moved to Germany
that year, and his father, 55, widely known as "Cha Boom" in Germany, coached
South Korea in the 1998 World Cup.
