Second International Sports Security Conference Opens in Doha

Doha, March 14 (QNA) - In the presence of HE Sheikha Al-Mayyasa Bint Hamad Al Thani, the Chairperson of the Qatar Museums Authority Board of trustees who is also chairperson of the Doha bid for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Hassan abdullah al-Zawadi, the chief executive of the Qatar 2022 World Cup Bid Committee, inaugurated on Wednesday the second international sports conference , being organised by The International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) at the Qatar National Convention Centre and is to run for two days. The opening session was also attended by Secretary General Of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, President of International Sports Security The International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) Mohamed Hanzab and the attendance of a big audiece and prominent figures and decision-makers from the world of sports fraternity, top executives and stake holders from the world's leading sports, management, security, legal organisations, sportspersons, academia, embassy officials and members from international sports media. This year s Conference takes place in Doha under the theme "Creating a Platform for Growth through Safe Sporting Events". It will focus on the positive impacts for hosts and partners of major sporting events, such as ensuring a lasting economic and security legacy, and the increased interaction of sport and socio-economic development. The Conference provides an important platform for sharing information and exploring best practice, as well as addressing the most pressing issues in sport today from safety, security, commercial and development perspectives. Al-Zawadi said in his opening address that qatar via its far -sighted vision aspires for achieving several privileges either to its inhbitants or to the rest of the world. Qatar, he said , is keen to benefit from the experiences of those countries which had previously hosted such grand sports events for ensuring a successful organisation of a FIFA world cup at all levels to collect its fruits at the sports and social levels in the coming years and to embody a far-distance vision taking into account the variable heritage of the coming generations . Qatar, he further told the conferees that qatar is strictly keen to maintain the safety and security principle to all its visitors and guests during the world cup event and highlighted the role of the ICSS for promoting the standards of security and safety in the playgrounds and expressed the complete and full preparedness of qatar to host and successfully organise the FIFA world cup in 2022 , taking into consideration of the successes the other countries have attained in this respect and their failures as well. Al-Zawadi who is the General Secretary of the Supreme Committee for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, focussed in his opening address on the constant coordination with the FIFA and its legal commission in particular for ensuring the special intellectual property rights for a number of good initiatives which are entirely relating to renewable energy and cooling technology and other innovations for the success of the World Cup. It is worthy to mention that the International Sport Security Conference is organized by the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS), a global, not-for-profit institution that aims to help event organizers to stage safer major sporting events.(QNA)
