Second International Sports Security Conference Opens in Doha

Doha, March 14 (QNA) - Top executives and stake holders from the world's leading sports, management, security, legal organisations, sportspersons, academia, embassy officials and members from international sports media assembled here Wednesday as the Second International Sports Security Conference (ISSC) opened at the Qatar National Convention Centre. Decision-makers from the world of sports fraternity are mulling various security issues at the two-day conference focused on the theme 'Creating a Platform for Growth through Safe Sporting Events', organised by ICSS a global, not-for-profit institution that aims to help event organizers to stage safer major sporting events. ICSS President Mohammed Hanzab welcoming the eminent gathering at the inaugural session said, "Organising and managing major events in a safe, secure, fair and transparent is crucial for the growth and development of the sports. This conference will discuss all pressing issues that will help ensure efficient conduct and safe participation of sportspersons as well as fans." The conference is focusing on the positive impacts for hosts and partners of major sporting events, such as ensuring a lasting economic and security legacy, and the increased interaction of sport and socio-economic development. The conference provides an important platform for sharing information and exploring best practice, as well as addressing the most pressing issues in sport today from safety, security, commercial and development perspectives. This year's conference features leading figures from key sports like football, basketball, cricket, rugby, tennis, golf, athletics, motorsports and other Olympic disciplines as well top officers from law enforcement agencies. Among the top officials attending the conference are: Football Association Premier League Chairman Sir Dave Richards, International Rugby Board Chairman Bernard Lapasset, President of Interpol Khoo Boon Hui, International Cricket Council Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat, Qatar Supreme Committee for the 2022 FIFA World Cup General Secretary Hassan Al Thawadi, former Commissioner of London s Metropolitan Police Lord John Stevens, Rio de Janeiro Public Security Secretary Jose Mariano Beltrame and many other prominent delegates from all continents.
