QOC Celebrates 33rd Anniversary
Doha, March 13 (QNA) - Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) celebrates on Wednesday its 33rd anniversary conception, with several local, regional, Asian and international achievements to be commemorated.
QOC has expressed on Tuesday its gratitude to everyone that contributed to its achievements and successes over the past years, especially the former employees who contributed directly to these successes. The committee also extended thanks to its employees for their efforts in serving sport and sportsmen in Qatar under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who chairs QOC.
QOC has had a bright record recently, with several achievements to take pride in. Qatar has impressively organized the 15th Asian Games in 2006 that witnessed the participation of 45 Asian countries.
Qatar has also succeeded in organizing the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League, a clear sign of IAAF's confidence in the capacities and abilities of Qatar.
A powerful and coherent bid granted Qatar the right to host the World Men's Handball Championship in 2015.
QOC has also managed to host the ninth World Conference on Sport and Environment (WCSE) that was held in the Middle East for the first time and witnessed a wide international participation. HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), attended the conference along with IOC President Jacques Rogge, and the Hungarian President Pal Schmitt, who is an IOC member too.
QOC emphasized its successes in organizing big events when it successfully hosted the 12th Arab Games in 2011, with participation of 21 Arab countries, turning the games into a talking point in the sports field. (QNA)
