QCCI Hosts Meeting for Latvian Businessmen

Doha, March 13 (QNA) - Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) hosted a meeting for visiting Latvian businessmen that was attended by Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis. The meeting explored ways of cooperation and enhancing bilateral relations between the businessmen of the two countries in investment fields, including transport services, construction, heavy equipment, communications, agriculture, health, education among others. In his opening speech, the Latvian premier voiced his country's keenness to strengthen economic ties with the State of Qatar, underlining his readiness to ensure closer cooperation between both countries as well as his endeavors to highlight joint investment opportunities. Dombrovskis added that the meeting between Latvian businessmen and their Qatari counterparts provides an opportunity to develop close relationships that can contribute to the promotion of growth and prosperity of the business communities in both countries, praising the investment conditions in his country due to many factors including the strategic location of Latvia as it is the gateway to Western Europe, Scandinavian countries and Russia. He urged the participants to invest in his country, stressing that Latvia has a safe environment for business as it was placed 21st in World Bank's International Doing Business Rankings. Latvian Minister of Economy Daniels Pavluts gave a presentation on investment opportunities, followed by another presentation on the major economic sectors in Latvia, which include transport, logistics, financial and agricultural services, biotechnology and information technology. QCCI Vice Chairman Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Towar hoped that the meeting be an opportunity for both parties to create partnerships, stressing the important role that business can play in all states, institutions and individuals on the basis of mutual benefit and consolidated relationships. Each year, he said, Qatar allocates a large budget for the overall development, which represents a magnet for businessmen from all countries. He expressed QCCI's readiness to strengthen the partnership between the Qatari business community and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Latvia. (QNA)
